PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. on Monday appointed lawyer Jose Moises Salonga as the new administrator of the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA).

LWUA, a government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC), has a specialized lending function mandated by law to promote and oversee the development of water supply systems in areas outside Metro Manila.

Its creation in the 1970s through the provincial water utilities act paved the way for the establishment of water districts.

Mr. Salonga had served in the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force of the Philippine National Police, the National Power Corp., Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK), and the First Farmers’ Rural Bank of Batangas, Inc.

He also worked for the Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corp., Office of the Executive Secretary, PNOC-Renewable Corp., First Cabanatuan Renewable Ventures Inc., Emergence Management and Consulting Corp., and the local government of Quezon City. — Kyle Aristophere T. Atienza
