Mayor, six others face coercion raps
ILOILO City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas and six other officials under his administration are facing criminal and administrative charges for allegedly harassing a city hall employee by coercing him to pin down his boss.
A case for grave coercion, grave misconduct, oppression, conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service and unfair discrimination was filed with the Office of the Ombudsman Visayas in Cebu City on Sept. 11.
Joe Mari A. Esteral, a book binder at the city’s Civil Registrar’s Office, said he was transferred to his new post at the Calajunan Dumpsite, which is about 20 kilometers away from Iloilo City Hall. His new job, was due to office politics, he said.
Mr. Treñas denied the charges, saying he did not know and have not talked to Mr. Esteral. — Emme Rose S. Santiagudo
