Talisay bans collection of electronic waste
TALISAY CITY’S Ecological Solid Waste Management (ESWM) office reminded residents that their electronic wastes — including used vehicle tires, vehicle body parts, appliances, and computers — will not be collected and thrown into the city’s sanitary landfill. ESWM head Edwin Nierves said they have been implementing this since the start of the year, but Mayor Eduardo R. Gullas, Sr. issued a memorandum again last week reminding them to strictly implement the policy. Mr. Niervas said the landfill is expected to last until 2020 the earliest, or up to 2025 “if residents are only responsible enough to sort their wastes at home and exclude non-biodegradable wastes.” At least 110 tons of garbage coming from the city’s 22 barangays are collected and disposed of in the landfill daily. The city government started operating the landfill located in Barangay Tapul in 2005. It has a total area of four hectares divided into three pans. — The Freeman
