ANOTHER successful staging of the 7’s Football League came to a conclusion on Monday night with Super Eagles of Nigeria defeating Ghana FC in a penalty shoot-out in their all-African final meeting at the McKinley Hill Stadium in Taguig.
Ghana was seemingly on its way to victory when Sam Adams broke the ice with a goal in the 33rd minute of the contest.
But Super Eagles had other plans as Fidelis Nnabuife levelled the count in the 49th minute to eventually force the shoot-out.
In the shoot-out, both teams would not relent, forcing what was scheduled to be three rounds of shoot-out play to go all the way to 10.
Keeper Abou Ibrahim pushed Super Eagles in a spot to claim the victory when he foiled Ghana player Emmanuel Donkor’s spot kick.
Holding their own on defense.
Lawrence Ikegoruka complemented it and delivered the winning kick after to hand Super Eagles the 10-9 win.
It was the second consecutive title for Super Eagles in the 7’s Football League, which is a league designed to give players and football lovers an opportunity to pursue their passion and further the growth of the sport. — Michael Angelo S. Murillo
