MAYNILA WATER Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is allocating over P10 billion to expand sewer lines in the West Zone concession area of Metro Manila within the next five years.
In a statement, the West Zone water concessionaire said it will install 183.6 kilometers of sewer lines in the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Las Piñas, barangay Poblacion in Muntinlupa and Kawit, Cavite.
Maynilad said it will begin installing the new sewer lines in the second half of 2018, and expected to be completed by 2022.
The sewer lines will allow Maynilad to catch the wastewater generated by the two million customers in the area, and sent to the Sewage Treatment Plants in the area with a combined treatment capacity of 320 million liters of wastewater a day.
“The installation of these new conveyance systems is part of our commitment to expand sewerage services to the entire West concession area,” Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez was quoted as saying in the statement.
Maynilad is currently installing sewer pipes in Valenzuela, Parañaque, and barangays Cupang and Tunasan in Muntinlupa.
Earlier this month, Maynilad said it is spending P6.75 billion to build a water treatment plant in Muntinlupa which will start operations in May next year.
Maynilad is the agent and contractor of government agency Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System for the west zone of the greater Manila area. It serves certain portions of Manila and Quezon City, as well as the west side of South Super Highway in Makati City. — Anna Gabriela A. Mogato
