BECAUSE THIS summer’s palettes are all about pastels, local nail polish brand Caronia recently came up with four pastel shades for their summer collection, two of which serve as their entry to the matte nail polish game.
The shades, together called the Popsicle Collection, included a nude polish with pink undertones called Peach Perfect, a lemon-colored polish aptly called Lemon Cool, and the matte polishes: Tequila Sunrise, a red-orange polish named after the drink; and Brain Freeze, an almost-but-not-quite pale blue shade that reminds one of diluted Pepsi Blue.
While matte nail polishes have been a trend for a couple of years, and other international brands such as Orly have come out with either a matte top coat or matte polishes (or both), Caronia only saw fit to develop its own this year.
“We’re focusing on [creating] colors; we’re not focusing on what others have but what we can offer the market, because most of them (consumers) are looking for new colors,” Rachel Enciso, Caronia brand specialist, told BusinessWorld during the March 9 event at Romulo Cafe, Makati City. She added, though, that the brand is considering a matte top coat so people “can matte-ify everything.”
Currently, the brand, which has been in existence for almost half a century, has more than 70 shades in its arsenal.
The launch of the summer collection also heralded the continuation of Caronia’s “Keep Things Colorful” campaign, which started last year.
Three new TV commercials are set to launch, starring Caronia brand ambassador Shaira Mae.
Ms. Enciso said the campaign, depending on the reception by customers, has the potential to be long-standing.
Besides preparing the TVCs, Caronia has also tied up with local apparel brand Genevieve Gozum for the summer collection. Genevieve Gozum has put on sale two shirt styles available in colors inspired by the newest collections. People who buy two shirts will be given two Caronia Popsicle Collection shades, one of which is their choice. — Zsarlene B. Chua
