THE DEPARTMENT of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is all set to unveil by December the Ala-Uli Steel Flyover, a long-awaited project that would alleviate traffic congestion in Pilar, Bataan.

In a media announcement on Thursday, DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain confirmed that the project, covering a distance of 600 meters, is on track to being completed by yearend.

Once opened, the two-lane flyover will help ease the traffic snarls along the Roman Expressway and Gov. JJ Linao National Road junction.

“Considered a traffic chokepoint for vehicles going to and from the towns of Mariveles and Pilar, the construction of the flyover at the busy intersection is expected to significantly improve mobility essential to economic and social development,” Mr. Sadain said.

Since the flyover is part of the Mega Bridges for Urban and Rural Development Project (MBURDP) aimed at enhancing the national road network, safety measures, including guidelines on allowable vehicles, will be imposed jointly by the DPWH and the local government unit to preserve the flyover’s structural integrity. — NCB
