Biggest village in San Jose del Monte split into four
THE VILLAGE of Muzon in Bulacan’s San Jose del Monte City has been split into four after residents voted in favor of the division in a plebiscite on March 25.
In a statement on Sunday, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said there was a 30.44% voter turnout, with 13,322 out of the 34,771 registered voters participating in the electoral exercise.
Of those who cast their ballots, 92.51% voted in favor of the division of the city’s most populous barangay.
“The division is intimated on the vision of the local governance in improving the delivery of basic social services for the general welfare of the whole constituency of the city,” Comelec said, citing the law dividing San Jose del Monte.
The plebiscite was held in four schools with 78 clustered precincts, the election body said.
The four independent villages will be named Muzon Proper, Muzon East, Muzon West and Muzon South.
In Presidential Proclamation No. 1057 issued in 2020, former President Rodrigo R. Duterte declared San Jose del Monte as a highly urbanized city. It was declared as Bulacan’s component city on Sept. 10, 2000. — John Victor D. Ordoñez
