Iloilo City to start building P38M command center this year
THE ILOILO City government is set to begin construction this year of a P38-million command center for security, traffic, and emergency response. The five-storey building will be located at the Iloilo City Center of the Gaisano Capital Group in Mandurriao District. The local government signed on Monday a usufruct agreement with Heva Development and Management Corp. (HDMC) for the use of a 375-square space at the Gaisano-owned complex. “This is a very huge help to the city’s growing economy. We have to assure all investors coming here in the city that we are ready and prepared to respond on any incidents/disasters,” Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said after signing the contract with HDMC represented by Carlo P. Legara. Mr. Treñas said the building will be named Henry Gaisano Iloilo City Action and Response Center (ICARE) in honor of the father of mall entrepreneur Edmund S. Gaisano Sr. ICARE will be used by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Public Safety and Transportation Management Office, police and fire stations. The city government is also planning to build satellite response centers in the Molo and Jaro districts. — Emme Rose S. Santiagudo
