THE QUEZON City Police District (QCPD) on Sunday presented the suspects behind the murder of a barangay chairperson last week. The suspects were identified as Teofilo Formanes, brothers Ruel Juab and Orlando Juab, and Joppy Juab. Last January 30, Barangay Bagong Silangan Chairperson Criselle Beltran, who was running as a representative of the 2nd district of Quezon City, died when her vehicle was ambushed by men in motorcycles along J.P. Rizal Street near Filinvest 2. Her driver was also killed. National Capital Region Police Director Guillermo T. Eleazar said in a press conference that the murder of Ms. Beltran can be considered election-related, although the motive is still unclear. “Para sa akin (For me), the running assumption is that it is an election-related incident. But for the motive, hindi natin ma (we cannot just yet) establish kung (whether) politically motivated or related sa trabaho niya (to her work) or sa personal life,” Mr. Eleazar said. — Vince Angelo C.
