EFFORTS FROM local government units combined with modern technology are key to solving the traffic woes of the National Capital Region (NCR), said Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Danilo D. Lim. “All the local government units and government agencies have to be integrated in a single program or system to address the traffic mess,” Mr. Lim said at a forum Thursday, May 31, where Seoul Metropolitan Government Information Technology Division Director Kim Wan Jib presented the South Korean capital’s advanced traffic management system. Mr. Kim illustrated how the Korean government utilized data collected over time to regulate traffic and make public transportation more efficient. “Even if your system is very good, you cannot just operate by yourselves or as a city. You have to integrate with other cities in order for you to… make better improvement,” said Mr. Kim, who pledged support to MMDA on the future implementation of the same intelligent transportation system in the Philippine capital. “We have to dream dreams,” Mr. Lim said, “and be willing to pay the price to make these dreams come true.
