THE ISLAND province of Camiguin is among the event sites being eyed by the Department of Tourism (DoT) should the Philippines win the hosting of the Ms. Universe 2019 pageant tentatively set in Dec. this year. Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo said in a media conference in Davao City last week that the other location being considered is Iloilo province. Ms. Teo said they want to showcase areas that were not visited during the pageant’s 2017 edition, including Davao City, Vigan, Manila, Cebu, Baguio, and Batangas. “As much as possible, we won’t go to those (previous) places,” Ms. Teo said.
BORACAY
However, one place where the DoT wants to bring the Ms. Universe again is to Boracay, currently closed to tourists as the environmentally-battered island undergoes a six-month rehabilitation starting April 26. “The (swimwear) event should be in Boracay for the world to see,” she said, “the new Boracay.” — Maya M.
