Apo Agua commits to submit reports on river activities for bulk water project
REPRESENTATIVES OF Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc. (AAII) and the multipartite Water Management Council of Davao City met last week to discuss pending concerns that have stalled the start of construction for the P10-billion bulk water supply project that will be sourced from the Tamugan River. Chingkee Pelino-Golle, who represents the nongovernment organization Interface Development Interventions at the council, said the company’s commitment to submit reports on its activities at the river is a positive and welcome move. “We reminded them of their commitment to produce safe water,” said Ms. Pelino-Golle. She added that Apo Agua has also committed to establish an integrated water resource management plan for the Panigan and Tamugan River Systems. Apo Agua, a joint venture between Aboitiz Equity Ventures and JV Angeles Construction Corp., has already signed an agreement with the Davao City Water District for the project, but approval from the city council remains pending as communities around the river area have expressed concerns on its impact. — Carmelito Q.
