Greater cooperation and collaboration towards customer protection
Leading mobile wallet GCash is looking forward to forging stronger partnerships with law enforcement agencies after its efforts, in collaboration with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), led to a major bust of suspected fraudsters preying on its customers.
GCash worked closely with the NBI Cybercrime Division (NBI CCD) to arrest a gang allegedly defrauding users of the digital wallet, among them two Nigerians and three Filipinos arrested in separate operations last week.
Their racket allegedly involved selling scam pages, including an imitation of the GCash webpage to dupe users via phishing to get sensitive data.
GCash helped report detected phishing sites, promptly responded to subpoenas issued by the court on disclosure of computer data, assisted victims in filing complaints with law enforcement authorities, and properly endorsed fraud cases.

GCash is working actively with the NBI and other law enforcement agencies to further strengthen security measures, through continuous threat and intelligence sharing, among others. The mobile wallet provider employs up-to-date security technologies and global best practices to ensure safe transactions for customers.
It advised customers to be wary of phishing messages sent via SMS, email or social media that mimic official platforms to obtain sensitive information such as MPINs and one-time passwords (OTPs).
“We urge our customers to be vigilant of phishing messages or suspicious calls meant to dupe them into giving away sensitive data about their GCash accounts. We will never ask for your MPIN or OTP, nor will we ask you to share it with anyone,” said GCash Chief Corporate Communications Officer Chito Maniago.
