THE state weather bureau, in an update on Friday, Oct. 13, 5:00 pm., said weather disturbance Odette “has intensified into severe tropical storm and is now heading towards the West Philippine Sea.

As of 4:00 p.m. of Friday, the eye of the storm was estimated at 205 km west of Sinait town, llocos Sur, with maximum sustained winds of up to 90 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 113 kph.

Odette (international name: Khanun) is estimated to have moderate to heavy rainfall within its 400-km diameter.

Storm Signal No. 1 is in effect in the Ilocos Region, Batanes, and the Babuyan Group of Islands. But moderate to occasionally heavy rains are also expected over the provinces of Zambales and Bataan.

Odette was forecasted to move west northwest at 15 kph. By Saturday afternoon, the storm is expected to be 510 km west of Sinait and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
