Labor chief pushes for passage of Security of Tenure bill

Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) chief Silvestre H. Bello said that his department is endorsing the Security of Tenure Bill (SoT) and proposed to the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) to certify the bill as urgent.
“Yun ang aking (That was my) proposal, that we will endorse it,” the Labor secretary said.
He added that during a pre-LEDAC meeting, he pushed for the inclusion of the SoT Bill as part of the legislative bodies’ main agenda.
SOT Bill or Senate Bill No. 1826 was sponsored by Committee on Labor, Employment and Human Resources Development Chair Joel J. Villanueva last week which the senator said is “pro-labor, pro-business, and pro-Filipino.”
Both the labor department and the business sector have expressed support for the SOT but have some reservations towards it. — Gillian M. Cortez
