THERE’S nothing like indulging in a good slice of pizza at the end of a hard day’s work. And since eating out with coworkers and friends while waiting for the city’s traffic to subside would not hurt once in a while, a new pizza restaurant chain from United Kingdom which has just opened in Uptown Mall in BGC would be worth a try.

PizzaExpress, a United Kingdom pizza restaurant chain which serves Italian-inspired, and made-to-order pizzas is the latest foreign franchise in the metro.

Since its founding by Peter Boizot on Wardour St., London in 1965, PizzaExpress has been serving handcrafted pizza in more than 500 restaurants around Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

“We are thrilled to open in Manila and especially proud to be partnering with the Tasteless Food Group. Together, we bring the brand that we love so much to the Philippines. Based on the original ideology from 1965 in Soho, London, we offer delicious pizzas, beautifully designed restaurants, and impeccable service. We hope to create a new dining experience in Manila,” Liam Collette, PizzaExpress General Manager for Hong Kong, UAE, Singapore & Franchises was quoted as saying in a press release.

PizzaExpress serves a selection of classic 10-inch pizzas and 13-inch pizza Romana.

“The classic pizza is what we’ve served since 1965. It’s a Neopolitan-style pizza which is thicker. The Romana pizza is the same dough but stretched thinner and more like the pizza from Rome,” Mr. Collet told BusinessWorld during the restaurant’s launch on Feb. 21.

Their international best-sellers include Calabrese pizza (P595), a rectangular pizza with Calabrese sauce, nuts, and chili; Lava pizza (P695), a Neopolitan 10-inch pizza with burrata mozzarella and basil; dough balls (P195), freshly baked nuggets of dough dipped in garlic butter and pesto sauce; and dough balls with Nutella (P230).

The 150-square meter restaurant seats 77 guests. The restaurant has a modern black and white interior accented with green corduroy chairs. It also has an open kitchen where guests can watch pizzaiolos (pizza chefs) fling the dough .

The Philippines is PizzaExpress’ third Southeast Asian market following Singapore and Indonesia.
