JEAN Antonette Brade downed Mindanao Leg qualifier Gllasea Ann Hilario to remain unbeaten and on top after six rounds of in the girls’ Under-18 division of the Gov. Amor Deloso National Age Group Chess Championships at the Zambales Sports Complex in Iba, Zambales.

Brade, who made it through here by finishing in the top three in the Luzon tilt, now has six points after also hurdling Kena Areld Galleguez, Shierzen Lhou Sebastian, Chloe Nasis, Noreen Sciecky Atienza and Glaiza Celine Romero in the first five rounds.

Half a point behind with 5.5 points apiece were Visayas’ Zhayou Capilitan and Luzon’s Daniella Bianca Cruz, who turned back Maj Manguilimotan and Chloe Nasis, respectively.

In the boys’ U8, Pat Ferdolf Macabulos bested Theodore Jude Garcia to keep his grip of the lead with 5.5 points.

Oshrie Jhames Reyes downed Nil Jeschel Nahbi Gamba to breathe down Macabulos’ neck with five points to show.

The top three in this six-day event, which is sponsored by Gov. Deloso and Congressman Cheryl Deloso, the Philippine Sports Commission and NCFP president Butch Pichay, will make the Phl team seeing action in the Asian Age Group tilt in Myanmar this June.

There, the Filipino woodpushers will have a chance to obtain International Master (IM) and FIDE Master titles and possibly Grandmaster (GM) norms.
