Tagum City declares state of calamity due to widespread flooding; classes suspended
CLASSES IN all levels were suspended on Monday in Tagum City after 15 out of 23 barangays were flooded due to rains over the weekend brought by the tail end of a cold front. The suspension, based on the memorandum issued by Mayor Allan L. Rellon on Sunday, would be in effect until lifted. The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) has also passed a resolution asking the city council to declare a state of calamity, which would open access to emergency funds. The council approved the resolution Monday. As of early Monday morning, the CDRRMC also reported that several roads were still impassable, including Barangay San Miguel Road to Dujali for all types of vehicles, Barangay Pagsabangan to Tagum City center for light vehicles, and Tuganay Road to Tagum City for light vehicles. Several road sections in Compostela Valley province and Caraga region have also been affected by flooding and landslides.
