MODULAR FLOATING docks in popular tourist destination El Nido in Palawan are now ready for use. “We plan to replicate the installation of modular floating docks in other island destinations in other parts of the country,” Pocholo Joselito D. Paragas, chief operating officer of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), said during the turnover ceremony of the facility to the El Nido local government on Sept. 19. Floating docks have previously been installed in Honda Bay Wharf in Puerto Princesa. Mr. Paragas noted the growing number of tourists in El Nido, which reached nearly 200,000 in 2017. TIEZA’s infrastructure projects are funded by 50% of the total travel tax collection, while the remaining 50% is remitted to the National Treasury, 40% of which goes to the Commission on Higher Education and 10% to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
