MEMBERS OF the Iloilo provincial board will conduct a site inspection of a National Housing Authority (NHA) project in Concepcion town for victims of typhoon Haiyan (local name: Yolanda) to validate allegations of substandard units. The board’s committee on justice, good government, and human rights held a hearing on the issue last Monday, where contractor Hercar Builders claimed that it followed the standard specifications. The contractor was supported by NHA representatives. “There are conflicting sides. That is why we need the participation of the DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) for us to know who is telling the truth,” said Board Member Renee L. Valencia, chair of the committee. Ms. Valencia said they want to do an ocular inspection to see for themselves the alleged substandard houses of the P289-million project, which has a target of 1,000 units.
