SENATOR Leila M. de Lima has been given the “Prize for Freedom Award” by the Liberal International, the world federation of liberal political parties to which the Philippine Liberal Party (LP) is a full member. Ms. De Lima, a member of the LP which is currently the opposition party in the country, has been in jail on charges of involvement in the illegal drug trade. Trial for her cases are ongoing. She is also a known long-time critic of President Rodrigo R. Duterte. The award is considered as the Liberal International’s highest honor for human rights defenders. — Andrea Louise E. San Juan
