Duterte assures ‘no whitewash’ in hazing victim’s case
THE PARENTS of fraternity hazing victim Horacio Castillo III met yesterday with President Rodrigo R. Duterte, who gave assurance that “there will be no whitewash” in the investigation. “You have my word,” Mr. Duterte told Horacio, Jr. and Carmina Castillo. Justice Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II and Volunteer Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) founding Chairman Dante Jimenez were also present at the meeting. Horacio III, a University of Santo Tomas law student, was found dead on Sept. 17 after supposedly attending a “welcome ceremony” of the Aegis Juris fraternity. His death has prompted a Congressional review of the country’s law on hazing. — Rosemarie A. Zamora
