The visit by the Georgetown-educated Mr. Wang, a renowned veteran diplomat in the international community, is upon the invitation of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano, according to the DFA’s statement.

“The reciprocal visit comes after Secretary Cayetano’s productive visit to China on June 28-July 1, 2017 and the warm welcome extended by the Chinese Foreign Minister,” the Department also said.

The Philippine government on President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s watch has sought to mend ties with China after tensions over the maritime dispute with the Asian power on the watch of Mr. Duterte’s predecessor, Benigno S. C. Aquino III.
