Pasay flagged for birthday fund mismatch
THE COMMISSION on Audit (CoA) has called out the local government of Pasay City for a mismatch in the number of birthday cash gift recipients and entitled members.
State auditors said 31,703 senior citizens who received P1,000 each last year did not tally with the 31,523 entitled members, showing a discrepancy of 180 recipients equivalent to P180,000.
In a report, CoA cited a beneficiary who did not receive cash. The agency found out that the payroll had been signed by somebody else.
The local government should monitor the release of benefits to rightful claimants to avoid fund misuse, according to the audit report. It also endorsed the release of benefits through bank accounts. — Vince Angelo C. Ferreras
