THE SWISS CHALLENGE period for rehabilitating Marawi City is set to start next week to determine the proponent of the project, according to the Task Force Bangon Marawi.
Eduardo del Rosario, chairperson of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council and Task Force Bangon Marawi, told reports on Tuesday that the Swiss challenge will last for three weeks, beginning May 26.
“Kapag alam namin, kunwari published na yan, nalaman na, go na kami (Once it’s published and made known, we’re ready to move),” he said.
Mr. del Rosario said that there is currently an unsolicited proposal for the rehabilitation program from a consortium of five Chinese and four local firms.
After the Swiss challenge, Mr. Del Rosario said that the rehabilitation activities conducted by the firms involved will begin on June 16 at the earliest.
The Japanese government inked on Tuesday the 2-billion yen (about P970 million) grant agreement for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Marawi city.
Mr. Del Rosario said that the rehabilitation efforts would cost about P77 billion over a period of four years. P55 billion would be allocated to the repairs of affected areas outside the main battleground, with P22 billion for the rehabilitation of ground zero. — Elijah Joseph C. Tubayan
