Spanish Film Festival

THE 18th edition of the PELÍCULA-Spanish Film Festival features some of the best contemporary Spanish cinema until Oct. 13 at Greenbelt 3 cinemas. A Social Sellers Bazaar

LBC presents “So Shop! A Social Sellers Bazaar” on Oct. 5, 11 a.m. at the Function Room 4, of SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. So Shop! will give social sellers the chance to move their businesses forward through live engagement with customers, thought leaders, and influencers. It will also feature discussions on topics relevant to take their business to the next level with speakers from LBC, Canva, The Bamboo Company, Refuse PH, Havas Ortega, Kimstore, and Facebook. Katsuri

TANGHALANG Pilipino stages a Hiligaynon adaptation of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men titled Katsuri (Visayan for “mouse”) until Oct. 27 at the Studio Theater of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The play is set in present day Negros and presents the plight of sugarcane farmers. An adaptation written by Bibeth Orteza and directed by Carlos Siguion-Reyna, the play stars Jonathan Tadioan as Toto and Marco Viaña as George. Himala: Isang Musikal

BASED on the 1982 film directed by Ismael Bernal, Himala: Isang Musikal centers on Elsa, a young woman who is looked upon as a desperate town’s savior. The Quest for the Adarna

REPERTORY Philippines’s Theater for Young Audiences presents a musical retelling of the Philippine folk tale Ibong Adarna. The Quest for the Adarna has performances until Jan. 26 at the Onstage Theater, Greenbelt 1, in Makati. In the kingdom of Berbania, the king falls mysteriously ill and can only be healed by the song of the mythical bird, Adarna. Talk on Japanese literature

THE Japan Foundation, Manila, in partnership with the Philippine Center of International PEN and Fully Booked, present award-winning Japanese literary translator, Ginny Tapley Takemori, for a talk — “Bridging Worlds: Conversations on translating Contemporary Japanese Literature” — at The Studio, Fully Booked Bonifacio High Street on Oct. 5, 2 p.m. Moderated by Jessica Zafra, Takemori will be discussing the best seller Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata, as well as other contemporary Japanese works. MSO does Beethoven

THE MSO’s 2019-2020 Season Gala Concert #3, Sibelius & Beethoven’s 5th, features 15-year-old violinist Jeanne Rafaella Marquez, first prize winner in the 2018 National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) as she performs the holy grail of all violin concertos — Sibelius’ D-minor. Finnish-Filipino conducting prodigy Tarmo Peltokoski, 19, a protégé of the legendary Finnish conducting legend Jorma Panula, will have his Philippine debut as he leads the MSO in this program that will also feature Beethoven’s most popular Symphony, his Fifth in C-minor. The concert will be on Oct. 6, 6 p.m., at the Hyundai Hall, Areté, Ateneo de Manila, Katipunan Ave., QC.

Momoland concert

THE CONCERT Good Times with Good Friends will be held on Oct. 5, at the Araneta Coliseum, Cubao, Q.C. It will feature top K-POP girl group Momoland, and Kim Jae Hwan and Ha Sung Woon. Environmental episode

P&G premieres the 5th episode of Activate: The Global Citizen Movement rallying citizens to get governments, corporations, organizations and individials to work together to address ocean plastic pollution. The episode will air in the Philippines on Oct. 4, 9 p.m., on the National Geographic channel. Activate: The Global Citizen Movement is a six part documentary series from P&G and National Geographic, co-produced by Global Citizen and RadicalMedia. It raises awareness about extreme poverty, inequality and sustainability issues to mobilize global citizens to take action and drive meaningful and lasting change. The 5th episode focuses on ocean plastic pollution. Global Citizen ambassadors and advocates Pharrell Williams and Darren Criss star in the episode, with Criss travelling through different Philippine cities to see the impact of plastic waste on people living in poverty.
