GUNS N’ ROSES, one of the biggest band that defined the rock scene during the late 1980s, is coming to Manila on Nov. 11 as part of its ongoing Not in This Lifetime Tour. The concert will be held at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan.
Concert promoter MMI Live first released a teaser about the Manila tour stop on May 16 on its official Facebook page, before making the announcement of the official play date on May 19 on the same page.
Guns N’ Roses also announced the Manila stop on the same day, along with other stops including Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and Taiwan.
The tour, which commenced in 2016, is considered the fourth-highest grossing tour of all time, having earned $480 million since December 2017.
The tour features the classic band lineup of Axl Rose, Slash (Saul Hudson), and Duff McKagan — this is the first time since their 1993 Use Your Illusion tour that these three members have performed together.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers first hit the airwaves in 1987 with the release of their debut album, Appetite for Destruction, which spawned hits such as “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine.”
“Sweet Child O’ Mine” was the band’s biggest hit and their only Billboard Top 100 number one.
“I hated that song with a huge passion for the longest time, and it turned out to be our hugest hit, so it goes to show what I know,” said Mr. Hudson in an interview with VH1 for its The Greatest 100 Songs of the ’80s show in 2006.
Their debut album was followed by G N’ R Lies (1988) which reached number two on the Billboard Top 200. The twin albums Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II (1991) debuted at number two and number one on the Billboard Top 200 respectively and have sold a combined 35 million copies worldwide, including 14 million units in the United States. The cover album The Spaghetti Incident? (1993) was the band’s last studio album to feature Mr. Hudson and Mr. McKagan as they subsequently departed due to artistic and creative differences.
Guns N’ Roses underwent several member changes in the years that followed, with only Mr. Rose as the remaining original member, that is until the three eventually reunited for the 2016 Not in Your Lifetime tour.
“We all were pretty positive (the reunion) would never happen, so it’s still sort of blowing our minds…. But everybody’s really getting along great and I think everybody’s come a long way, and it’s all cool,” said Mr. Hudson in a 2016 interview with Ultimateclassicrock.com.
Tickets for the Nov. 11 concert at the Philippine Arena sale will go on sale starting June 9, 10 a.m., on smtickets.com. The Guns N’ Roses Fan Club presale will be on June 8.
