AYALA-OWNED Seda Abreeza Hotel recently marked its 6th anniversary with the adoption of Mayumi, one of the Philippine eagles under the care of the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF). “Seda Hotels adopted Mayumi, support her full year needs as required by Philippine Eagle Foundation, to cover for her meals, medication, and care. In previous years, we adopted the 5 bird ambassadors of PEF,” said Ken V. Kapulong, general manager of Seda Abreeza. The Ayala-owned Seda Hotels has been supporting PEF since 2015. Seda Abreeza in 2016 donated P100,000 to fund the food and veterinary care of the five PEF bird ambassadors, namely: Hali-a, a Brahminy kite; Kuli, a male Philippine serpent eagle; Lali, a Pinsker’s hawk eagle; Silim, a female Mindanao lowland Scops owl; and Asul, a male white-bellied sea eagle. These bird ambassadors are usually presented as part of the PEF’s information and education drives. PEF Executive Director Dennis I. Salvador said apart from Mayumi, some of their other eagles are also fully adopted while donations support the breeding operations and help cover some of the Philippine Eagle Center’s overhead expenses. — Maya M.
