THE BUREAU of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) warned that shellfish collected at Matarino Bay in Eastern Samar, Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur, coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol, and the coastal waters of Milagros in Masbate are still positive for paralytic shellfish poison beyond the regulatory limit. In its latest red tide bulletin, BFAR said all types of shellfish and Acetes sp. or alamang gathered from these five areas are not safe for human consumption. These should not be harvested, sold, bought, nor eaten.
Fish, squids, shrimps and crabs are safe provided that these are fresh and washed thoroughly, and internal organs such as intestines and gills are removed before cooking, the BFAR said. — Reicelene Joy N. Ignacio
