“With the aging population of Filipino farmers, Generation Z (Gen Z) is encouraged to enter the farming industry through hydroponic farming.
Hydroponics is a farming technique in which plants are grown using a water-based nutrient solution instead of soil. It uses 90% less water than traditional farming and occupies minimal space.
According to John Harold B. Zapata, owner of J.H.B. Zapata Integrated Farm, hydro farming is suitable for the younger generation because it allows the new generation of farmers to do “farming with a style.””
“”You can do farming under the shade because you just need to place the plant on the pump,” he said in Filipino. “Since it’s a soilless cultivation, you won’t touch soil and worms.”
