BEYOND the cityscapes and cosmopolitan escapades, there is more to Hong Kong than what instantly meets the eye. The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) wants visitors to discover what the city has to offer exactly what any local would know, and just in time for the holiday season.
To give visitors an insider’s look into what makes Hong Kong tick, HKTB has culled authentic experiences for visitors at www.discoverhongkong.com/eng/best.
Here are some experiences:
• Hong Kong’s unique culture and traditions are derived from a melting pot of both Western and Eastern influences. Take the “A Glimpse of Traditional Central” tour and learn about all the changes of Hong Kong’s history evident in culture-rich Central, Sheung Wan, and Western Districts. Stroll past colonial era medical facilities, Chinese temples, traditional Chinese medicine shops and grocery stores.
• Hong Kong prides itself on its vibrant nightlife that residents usually have access to. “Good Evening Kowloon” is a three-hour evening walk in the lively areas of Yau Ma Tei and Jordan that will give visitors a taste of local entertainment and delicacies, as well as a glimpse into Chinese culture and Hong Kong society.
• Enjoy the cityscape on a cool holiday evening with the “Big Bus Night Tour.” The hour-long trip covers a number of major highlights, accompanied by a recorded commentary.
• There are a number of options to explore the city from the water. From Dec. 23 to Jan. 1, visitors can take the “Pre-Dinner Sunset Cruise” which departs nightly at 6 p.m. from Pier 9 in Central, and 6:15 p.m. from the Kowloon Public Pier. Unlimited beverages on board, coupled with a refreshing breeze and a spectacular view make this a must-do.
One can also join the “A Symphony of Lights Dinner Cruise” for a sumptuous buffet dinner and live entertainment, and the best seats in the house for watching the multimedia show A Symphony of Lights.
Visitors can also sail back in time to 1920s Hong Kong via the Star Ferry Harbour Tour Single Ride Night Round Trip on board the double-decker Shining Star ferry.
