Entrepreneur mom wants to bring play-and-learn station in offices, parties
DAVAO CITY — Debbie U. Rodolfo, a mother and entrepreneur, recently opened the first of two shopping mall-based branches of Tinker House in the Davao Region, and she wants to bring the play-and-learn station concept further to offices, parties and even schools.
“We hope to bring Tinker House and its atmosphere of fun learning to parties, schools, even offices so kids will have a great time while their parents are at work,” said Ms. Rodolfo following the opening of the first branch located at SM City Davao.
The second branch will soon be opened at the GMall in Tagum City.
Ms. Rodolfo said she considers Tinker House, developed by Tacloban City-based couple Mitzi and Chris Sabando and is open for franchising, as not just a business but an advocacy to provide children with a fun way of learning outside the classrooms.
“Kids are naturally curious about the world. It is our job as parents to find an avenue for our children to really push their inquisitive minds to build the foundation of knowledge and curiosity as they grow up,” she said.
Tinker House offers about 30 various activities grouped into Fun Crafts, Awesome Builds, and Cool Science.
Playtime fees range from P150 to P360, and the children can bring some of the kits home. Staff members are on hand to assist the children and even parents who join the activities.
Among the activities are playing archeologist; building model airplanes, animals, and other creatures; making wooden and doodle bots; and making Papier-mâché projects and other art activities.
“As a parent, I was looking for a venue for my own daughters to not only play but to explore their curiosity about arts and science and how things work. I want them to innovate and explore,” said Ms. Rodolfo. — Carmelito Q. Francisco
