THE PHILIPPINE Statistics Authority expects Filipinos to become aware of the government’s plan for a national ID system before mass registration starts in July next year, according to Pepito D. Amoyen, PSA officer-in-charge in the Davao region.
The national ID system seeks to simplify public and private transactions and promote seamless service delivery, cut corruption and promote ease of doing business.
“It is like a normal ID,” Mr. Amoyen said last week. Added features are the biometrics of 10 fingers and iris scanning, he said.
The agency will set up fixed registration centers and conduct mobile registration, Mr. Amoyen said at a briefing.
All personal information will be protected under the Data Privacy Act, he said.
Pilot registration started in Manila this month and participants included regional heads of PSA. — Maya M. Padillo
