THE PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) has filed criminal charges against Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo for illegal possession of firearms and explosives, which were confiscated during a search operation at his residence last Monday. One of the complaints, filed before the Albay Provincial Prosecution Office, was for violating Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunitions Act was. The police found two pieces of caliber .45 pistols, 15 pieces of ammunition for the caliber .45 pistol, and one ammunition for caliber 5.56 pistol. Another complaint is for violating Republic Act 9516 or Illegal Possession of Explosive as the police also recovered “one complete round of 40mm which is used in M203 grenade launcher, a high explosive ordnance capable of destructing properties and inflicting injuries or death to personnel when detonated.” Mr. Baldo has been tagged by the arrested killer of AKO Bicol Party-list Representative Rodel M. Batocabe as the alleged mastermind behind the crime. Mr. Baldo was confined at the UST Hospital in Legazpi City due asthma attack after he was arrested on Wednesday midnight. — Vince Angelo C. Ferrera
