Cebu City mayor revives campaign vs business tax evaders
CEBU CITY is losing billions of revenues from over 10,000 business establishments that are not regularly paying taxes, according to Mayor Tomas R. Osmeña. Speaking to the media Tuesday, Mr. Osmeña said he is creating a task force to run after those violating the city’s tax ordinance. “I am going to tell the Cebuanos. I am going to make a stand,” said Mr. Osmeña, adding that the local government is now finalizing the list of the violators. In April 2017, the city government started going after alleged tax evaders. Among the establishments closed were two branches of the famous Rico’s Lechon restaurant, along with its central commissary, and several other restaurants. — The Freeman
