THE DECREASE in the supply of National Food Authority (NFA) rice in the Central Visayas market has pushed commercial rice prices by P2 to P5 per kilo, the NFA regional office admitted. NFA-Region 7 Assistant Director Yolanda Navarro, speaking during this week’s Kapihan sa PIA, said NFA has stopped supplying rice to its retailers two weeks ago, but distribution is expected to resume this week. Members of the Grains Retailers Confederation of the Philippines-Cebu Chapter were scheduled to meet yesterday to determine the areas that will get NFA supply. Ms. Navarro assured that despite the lack of NFA rice, the supply in the region remains “stable”. As of Feb. 26, Central Visayas had a total of 93,261 bags of NFA rice; 680,000 bags of commercial rice; and 1.16 million bags of household rice. — The Freeman
