Magnitude 4.9 earthquake shakes Eastern Samar, Leyte
A MAGNITUDE 4.9 tectonic earthquake shook parts of Eastern Samar and Leyte at 10:48 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6. Based on the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology’s (Phivolcs) monitoring, the epicenter was located around Salcedo, a town at the southeastern tip of Samar island. Two weaker tremors of 2.1 and 2.9 were recorded by Phivolcs past 12 noon. No damages were immediately reported. Other areas that felt the initial shaking were:
Intensity V — Salcedo and Mercedes, Eastern Samar
Intensity IV — Lawaan, Eastern Samar
Intensity III — Borongan City, Guiuan and San Julian, Eastern Samar; Tacloban City; Palo, Leyte; Catbalogan City, Samar.
