Probe launched on Vietnamese fishermen-Philippine navy encounter

TWO VIETNAMESE fishermen were found dead with gunshot wounds and five others were arrested after the Philippine navy chased suspected poachers in the South China Sea over the weekend, authorities said Monday. The Philippine government, in a statement released by Malacañang yesterday, said an investigation on the incident has been initiated. “Authorities are now conducting a fair and thorough investigation into the incident involving a Philippine Navy vessel and Vietnamese fishing boats which were seen fishing 34 nautical miles off Cape Bolinao in Pangasinan well within exclusive economic zone.” — AFP with a report from Rosemarie A.
