PODCAST | Discussion with Atty Ariel Inton, Founder of Lawyers for Commuters Safety and Protection

Ariel Inton used to be one of three members of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

During his stint, the Philippines issued rules covering ride-hailing platforms, supposedly the first in the world that dealt with transport network companies (TNCs) and transport network vehicle services (TNVS).

Currently, Mr. Inton now heads the Lawyers for Commuter Safety.

The group provides legal aid to hapless and helpless motorists and pedestrians — victims of hit and runs and most recently, a Grab driver after a passenger beat him up when he returned his mobile phone.

BusinessWorld sat down with Mr. Inton to talk about why he initially opposed ride-hailing services and why he will, if ever, block the entry of Go-Jek, an Indonesian company that’s preparing to enter the Philippines.
