Oddsmakers have pegged Rory McIlroy as a co-favorite heading into the PGA Championship, and not just because he just placed a solid fourth at the British Open. His final-round flurry does provide him with much-needed momentum at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational this weekend; more importantly, it stopped a swoon that had him missing the cut in three of his last four starts. It also helps that he has had notable success at both Firestone and Quail Hollow. The latter, in particular, has served as the venue for two victories and four other Top 10 finishes.

Reds call Duterte a US puppet

THE COMMUNIST Party of the Philippines (CPP) slammed President Rodrigo R. Duterte anew on Thursday, calling him “a tool for US foreign aggression” when he denounced North Korea for developing its nuclear weapons capability. “He is echoing the line of the US imperialists demanding North Korea to stop testing its intercontinental ballistic missiles and satellite-launching rockets to deny it the capability to defend itself and deter US military aggression,” the CPP said. ”For all his bluster, Duterte, the strongman that he is, has no such balls, having revealed himself a pseudo-patriot who has now fully embraced his fellow buffoon Trump,” it added. CPP also said that it supports the North Koreans in condemning US threats of invasion against their country. “The DPRK’s (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) nuclear weapons and capability at striking back is its only assurance against suffering the same fate as Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and other countries which became victims of US aggression and transformed into a US colonial wasteland.” CPP’s founding leader, Jose Maria Sison, is in the US terror list. — Jil Danielle M. In The Workplace
Rey A. H. Elbo

Our HR department has recommended the dismissal of our operations manager who was found guilty in a sexual harassment case. This was done despite the absence of a company rule and the penalty to be imposed. The boss of the manager is a vice-president who politely rejected HR’s proposal and instead imposed a 60-day suspension, but the penalty was officially communicated in the department as a vacation leave. This decision prodded the victim to resign. Is it proper for the vice president to over-rule HR? — Feeling Unfair.

THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s (LTFRB) recent encounters with ride-sharing applications, Uber and Grab, generally drew flak from the public. While a compromise was eventually reached, questions on LTFRB’s power to regulate this new industry and on the government’s ability to keep up with technological change have surfaced once again.
