Climate and coal, PSALM, NEA and NGCP

By Bienvenido S. Oplas, Jr.
Today is the second day of the 13-day UN Climate Conference 2021 in Glasgow, UK. Until last week, many news outlets from print, TV, and online reported many alarmist climate scenarios of what would happen unless the world gets out of fossil fuels especially coal. Consider these recent reports in BusinessWorld, (I included some local energy stories):

Representing somebody else

THERE is a great imbalance between the available supply of celebrities and the high demand for their appearance (paid or unpaid). When the event for the star, rock or corporate, invited six months ago to be keynote speaker, ribbon cutter, master of ceremonies, or wedding sponsor finally comes around, he realizes it is too late to back out. He makes his excuse (I need to undergo minor surgery) and scrambles to offer a proxy as sacrificial lamb.

I was asked to dance

By Marcelle Galera
“Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance.” I first heard this tagline during our company’s Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) campaign. I am blessed to be a part of an organization that highly values respect for people. As a matter of fact, respect for people is one of our company’s core values and I am proud to share that respect has been embedded in our culture. My first-hand experience of “being invited to the party” was when I was nominated to be a part of a project composed of mostly Western and Middle Eastern employees. I knew I was “asked to dance” when I was given the role to lead a critical part of the project. I felt included and valued throughout the project and even after its completion as I knew that my inputs were appreciated.
