Labor groups to stage protest vs contractualization, low wages on Duterte’s SONA
Labor groups said the Duterte administration has yet to solve contractualization, low wages, and denied labor rights.
At a press briefing in Manila City on Friday, July 20, representatives of the Nagkaisa Labor Coalition and Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) said they will join forces anew in the protest actions on Monday, July 23, during the third State of the Nation Address (SONA) to express their dismay with the labor policies of President Rodrigo R. Duterte.
“We were fooled with endo (endo of contractualization). We were hit by TRAIN Tax Reform Acceleration and Inclusion law). We were given false hopes on wages. Dead rights. Victims of violence. This is the situation of Filipino workers in the two years of the Duterte administration,” Federation of Free Workers (FFW) National President and Nagkaisa chairperson Jose Sonny G. Matula read in Filipino the statement of the labor groups. — Camille A. Aguinaldo
