METRO MANILA’S new police chief, Brigadier General Debold M. Sinas, is expected to continue with the government’s controversial war against illegal drugs and the ongoing revitalized internal cleansing program, according to the new Philippine National Police (PNP) Directorial Staff chief.

“All he has to do is to continue what has been started at iyon nga ‘yung (and those are the) campaign against illegal drugs and at the same time itong (this) internal cleansing,” Police Major General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar told BusinessWorld in a phone interview on the recent reshuffle of high-ranking police officers.

The PNP announced on Friday the new appointment of officers after Police Lieutenant General Fernando H. Mendez, Jr. formally retired as PNP deputy chief for administration.

Mr. Eleazar said cops in the National Capital Region Police Office are “motivated and inspired,” and Mr. Sinas must just focus on the “effective supervision” of existing programs.

Mr. Sinas was previously posted as head of the PNP in Central Visayas.
