THE Department of Labor and Employment has laid out the extent of government financial assistance which workers affected by the closure of Boracay are entitled to.
Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello said that Department Order 191 authorizes an Adjustment Measures Program (AMP) under the Boracay Emergency Employment Program (BEEP).
Formally employed workers earning the minimum wage are entitled to monthly financial support of P4,205.50, equivalent to 50% of the Region VI minimum wage. Those earning less than the minimum wage are entitled to P2,102.75 per month, or 25% of the region’s minimum wage, with a single payment to be made for three months worth of support.
DoLE said that eligible candidates are “workers employed in Boracay Island and other parts of Malay, Aklan by an employer or any person acting directly or indirectly in the interest of an employer.” They should also be affected by the island’s rehabilitation.
Interested parties will need to register for AMP BEEP and provide a photocopy of their certificates of employment; a photocopy of their government-issued IDs; and proof of a Land Bank of the Philippines account. — Gillian M. Cortez
