ABS-CBN Corporation on Thursday said its popular television dramas will soon be aired in Sub-Saharan Africa, after it partnered with digital TV operator StarTimes.

In a statement, the Lopez-led media giant said the partnership involves the airing of more ABS-CBN shows in the region, “in response to African viewers’ demand for more Filipino dramas.”

ABS-CBN signed the deal during the recently concluded MIPCOM (Marché International des Programmes de Communication or International Market of Communications Programmes) in Cannes, France.

StarTimes Chairman Pang Xinxing noted the popularity of Filipino dramas which are “full of youthful romance, pure love.”

“Despite the highly competitive global market, Africa has remained to be one of our constant and strongest territories. We look forward to an even wider presence for Filipino content in the region via the StarTimes platform,” said ABS-CBN OIC-head for Integrated Acquisitions and International Sales and Distribution Maria Cecilia Imperial was quoted as saying in the statement.

ABS-CBN will provide first-window screening of its shows such as the family drama A Love to Last, and revenge drama series Wildflower.

Among the hit shows aired on StarTimes, a pay-TV channel, were On the Wings of Love and Dolce Amore. It is currently showing Doble Kara.

ABS-CBN’s content is made available across more than 50 territories through ABS-CBN International Distribution. It has sold over 30,000 hours of content worldwide.
