DAVAO CITY — The city council has endorsed Megaworld Corp.’s application for its information technology (IT) park to be accredited by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), subject to the company’s submission of a master drainage plan.
Megaworld previously asked the council to endorse the planned IT Park, located within its Davao Park District project, as required by PEZA.
Passed this week, Council Resolution No. 01067-17 provides the endorsement, but directed Megaworld to first submit the master drainage plan for its IT Park to the local legislative body prior to its application for a development permit with the Housing Land Use and Regulatory Board.
Councilor Jimmy G. Dureza, chairperson of the committee on trade and industry, said the city council is particularly concerned about the drainage plan because the projects are on an elevated part of the city and its wastewater could affect surrounding communities.
The Davao Park District covers 11 hectares, of which 3.68 hectares is intended for the IT Park. Other components include a complex of residential condominiums, food and retail shops, a hospital, and a school.
Megaworld Senior Manager Angelo E. Natividad assured the city council the company has a well-planned drainage and sewerage system for the project.
Meanwhile, Davao City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC) Investor Assistance head Christian D. Cambaya said while most PEZA-accredited establishments, which receive tax perks under the national law, no longer apply with them for local incentives, Megaworld still has the option to do so.
“There is no prohibition if the IT parks apply for incentives with both PEZA and DCIPIC,” he said. — Carmencita A. Carillo
