Cigarette machines destroyed at Clark port
SMUGGLED CIGARETTE manufacturing machines, fake cigarette master cases and other packaging materials were destroyed at the Port of Clark on Monday, while another set of similar items are scheduled for destruction on Tuesday. The Bureau of Customs (BoC), in a statement, said this is part of the “relentless effort… to prevent illicit trade and customs fraud.” The Monday batch were seized last Feb. 19, and forfeited on July 26 for violations of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. Those on Tuesday were forfeited Aug. 6. “The said activity sends a strong message to smugglers to stop their illegal business practices, shortchanging the government of the rightful revenues,” BoC said.
