THE ORIGINAL Pilipino Music (OPM) singer behind the hits “Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin” and “Paano Ang Puso Ko,” April Boy Regino died at the age of 51 on Nov. 29.

The news of his death was confirmed via a Facebook post by his brother Vingo Regino. “This day is so sad, my brother April Boy is gone,” Mr. Regino said in Filipino in his post. Mr. Regino’s son, JC, uploaded a photo of a candle with a caption saying “Idol.”

He rose to fame in the 1990s with songs like “Ye Ye Vonnel,” “Umiiyak Ang Puso Ko,” aside from the aforementioned songs. He was known for his long hair and for wearing caps during his performances.

In February 2009, Mr. Regino was diagnosed with prostate cancer and diabetes and was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy in 2015. He lost sight in his left eye because of the condition.

Born Dennis Regino Magdaraog on April 9, 1969, Mr. Regino is the oldest of three brothers, all of whom are musicians. He is survived by his wife Madel, son JC, and his brothers Vingo and Jimmy.

No cause of death nor wake details were available at the time of this writing. — ZBC
