Actress/singer Isabel Granada, 41
ACTRESS-SINGER Isabel Granada has died from a brain hemorrhage on Nov. 4 after suffering a burst aneurysm in Doha, Qatar. She was 41.
Her cousin, Joseph Rivera, broke the news of her death in a Facebook post.
“It is with great sadness and grief that my cousin Isabel Granada peacefully joined our creator at 18:00 (11 p.m. GMT+8) today with the comfort the family,” Mr. Rivera said in his post.
Ms. Granada collapsed while attending the Philippine Trade and Tourism Conference in Qatar on Oct. 20, and had been in a coma for over a week.
“It is with great sadness that my wife Isabel Granada has peacefully passed here in Doha Qatar,” said Arnel Crowley, Ms. Granada’s husband, in a statement posted on Mr. Rivera’s Facebook account.
“She has been a fantastic wife, mother and daughter. She always did her best in everything she did, whether it be in front of a camera or sports.
“I would also like to take this time to thank the Filipino community in Doha for giving their full support throughout this difficult time for myself and the family.
“Baby.. wherever you might be.. just always remember that I LOVE YOU. and I miss you very much,” he said in the statement.
Ms. Granada started her career as part of the so-called Tuesday Group of GMA’s variety show That’s Entertainment in 1986.
She went on to win a FAMAS Award for Best Supporting Actress in the 1998 film Ligaya ang Itawag Mo sa Akin which starred Rosanna Roces.
That same year, she released her debut album, Out Here on My Own.
Among her other movies were Magic to Love (1989) and Lessons in Love (1990) in which she starred alongside Chuckie Dreyfus.
Her most recent projects included starring in GMA Network’s weekly drama anthology Tadhana in 2017 and ABS-CBN’s Wansapanataym in 2016.
Beyond showbiz, Ms. Granada was also a licensed private pilot, having attended the Philippine Air Transport and Training Services College where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 2001.
“Thank you for all the times we were together. For the times you made my family and I happy. For the love you gave me wholeheartedly… you took with your passing an enormous part of my life I will never be able to get back,” her screen partner, Mr. Dreyfus, posted in his account in Filipino before ending with, “I love you, very, very much.”
Her former husband, Angeles City councilor Jericho Genaskey Aguas, also posted on his Facebook account that Ms. Granada “played a big part in my life. You gave me a handsome and smart kid, our 14 years together were colorful. For everything, from the bottom of my heart and soul, thank you very, very much. You can rest now. Goodbye Isa”
Her friend, former actress Lalaine Bianca Lapus, who is the ex-wife of actor Vhong Navarro, posted “heaven just gained another angel” before thanking Ms. Granada for “the two decades of friendship.”
“Your laughter is something I would like to remember alongside your ‘national’ eyelashes. The important thing is you’re no longer suffering. No more pain. I know you fought sis. You can rest now. I love you,” Ms. Lapus added. – Zsarlene B. Chua
